NSU to host annual Fun and Field Day- March 28

Published: 2019-03-11

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) - Northeastern State University is set to host the fifth annual Fun and Field Day March 28 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Doc Wadley Stadium and track.

This area event provides an opportunity to students around the state who are unable to travel to the state level Special Olympics. Participants will have the chance to compete in a variety of track and field events, as well as bocce, softball throw, face painting and more games.

Neisha Wilson with the Grand View School Special Education Department has organized the event this year.

I am so excited to be more hands on throughout the preparation of the event this year, Wilson said. I love how we are able to give students the opportunity to participate in a sporting event that they might not ever get the chance to do otherwise. We had over 400 athletes compete last year, and I can't wait to experience the excitement of this year's event.

NSU athletic teams, spirit squads and the education department will volunteer throughout the day, assisting with events and supporting the participants.

The community is welcome to come and support the Fun and Field Day participants. The event is free and open to the public. There will be concession stands set up by Sodexo and worked by eighth grade Grand View students. A percentage of the money raised at these stands will go towards Grand Views Special Olympic Department.
