NSU’s Green Country Jazz Festival to feature Tia Fuller

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) The Green Country Jazz Festival will return for its 52nd year March 4 at 7 p.m. in the Northeastern State University Center for the Performing Arts. The festival will feature Grammy-nominated saxophonist Tia Fuller.

Fuller is a touring saxophone artist and full-time professor at the Berklee College of Music. She was selected as a member of the all-female band touring with R&B star, Beyonc. An accomplished performer in her own right, Fuller has recorded four CDs with her quartet and recently completed her fifth recording, Diamond Cut.

The NSU Jazz program is honored to reflect and interpret Fullers brilliant music live in concert, said Dr. John Petrucelli, jazz director.

The Green Country Jazz Festival began in 1967 and has since brought internationally renowned jazz artists to the area for decades. It is one of the countrys longest running jazz festivals, put on by NSUs Department of Music.

Judges Jam. The storied Judges Jam will kick off the festival on March 3 at 8 p.m. at the Jazz Lab.

Featuring Ms. Fuller accompanied by special guest judges Fred Sanders, Raul Reyes Bueno and Terrence Hobdy, the Jazz Lab will be filled with high energy musical acrobatics as the festival is brought to order, Petrucelli said.

Muskogee Ave., at the NSU Playhouse. Tickets will also be available at the performance Box Office beginning one hour before show times.

The Green Country Jazz Festival is a collaborative effort between the Sequoyah Institute and the NSU Jazz Studies program. The performance is partially funded by a grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council. The Sequoyah Institute can be reached by phone at 918-444-4500.
