NSU Department of Music presents “The Old Maid and the Thief”

Published: 2019-03-13

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) - The Northeastern State Universitys Opera Workshop will present Gian Carlo Menottis one act opera The Old Maid and the Thief April 26-27 at 7 p.m. at the Center for the Performing Arts.

Set in a radio studio in the 1940s, this opera will expose the scandals and secrets of a quiet town through the gossiping of two busy bodies, Miss Todd and Miss Pinkerton. A beggar comes upon Miss Todd's house and is invited to stay by Miss Todd and her maid Laetitia. Both ladies quickly become smitten with this dreamy stranger. When they find out he is an escaped convict, they turn to thievery to keep him around. It seems these ladies will stop at nothing to get their man.

The Old Maid and the Thief will be directed by Dr. Whitney Myers and accompanied by Farren Mayfield.

Full of laughter and twists, this opera is sure to show the audience a good time, Myers said.

General admission is $10. Students and seniors will be admitted for $6.
