NSU hosts slam poet to inspire high school students

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) Northeastern State University College of Education will present Taylor Mali as keynote speaker for the 20th annual Celebration of Teaching event at 10 a.m. on March 14 in the Webb Auditorium.
Mali is a TED Best of the Web speaker who writes and performs slam poetry and teaches others to do the same. He is a vocal advocate of teachers and the nobility of teaching, having taught in one capacity or another since 1990.
Taylor is a passionate education advocate, and we are excited to be able to host him, said Dr. Tobi Thompson, associate professor and director of the Cappi Wadley Center, If youve seen his performance poetry in person or on YouTube, youll know he is an enthusiastic motivator, and thats just what education needs right now.
Celebration of Teaching is an annual event sponsored by the College of Education and Kappa Delta Pi. The event is designed to inspire high school students who might be interested in choosing teaching as a career and to showcase education as a viable career choice.
The keynote presentation is open to the public. The remainder of the eventincluding a luncheon and a question and answer session about the teaching profession-is reserved for visiting high school students and teachers.
Taylors books will be available in the RiverHawk Shoppe, and he will be available for signing after his presentation
