NSU kicks off holiday season with Lights On, Good Yule

NSU kicks off holiday season with Lights On, Good Yule – Dec. 3

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University is kicking off the holiday season with the annual Lights On event on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024.

This year marks the 32nd year of celebration for Lights On, an event set to bring the NSU and Tahlequah communities together for the holiday season, with the lighting of the historic Seminary Hall.

This year’s event will be co-hosted by NSU First Lady Sara Gunhus-Hanley and Tahlequah Mayor Suzanne Myers.

The event, produced by NSU Drama and the College of Liberal Arts, will include a pre-show of performances by choirs from Tahlequah elementary schools, NSU Pom and local dance studios. There will be special appearances from Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves.

“Lights On is a wonderful tradition that helps kick-off the holiday season,” Dr. Robyn Pursley, assistant dean for the College of Liberal Arts, said. “I love being a part of something that brings together both the campus community and the Tahlequah community. My favorite part of the event is getting to see the excitement in the kiddos when Santa arrives—even though they know it will happen, it is always a big moment.”

Lights On is open to students and community members at no cost. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in front of Seminary Hall.

Following Lights On, attendees are encouraged to head to the NSU Center for Performing Arts for the Good Yule concert, presented by the NSU Department of Music. The concert features performances by the NSU Wind Ensemble, NSU Jazz Ensemble, University Singers, NSU Brass Ensemble and the NSU Opera Workshop, as well as several faculty performers, all culminating in a rousing finale featuring all student performers.

The Good Yule performance will start at 7 p.m. at the NSU Center for Performing Arts. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students.
