NSU Athletic Association seeks members

Published: 2010-05-06

The NSU Athletic Association invites those interested in supporting the RiverHawks and participating student-athletes to join the organization.

"Anybody that is passionate about Northeastern State University and wants to help us develop our student-athletes and enhance their collegiate experience at NSU, we certainly extend to them an invitation to join," said Scott Pettus, assistant director of external operations for Athletics.

The Athletic Association assists the athletic department and supplements scholarship and operating budgets for each RiverHawk athletic organization. The association is comprised of former student-athletes, coaches, alumni, fans and friends of Northeastern State University.

"The association is charged with fund-raising and 'friend-raising' for RiverHawk athletics," Pettus said. "Right now our membership is mostly former student-athletes but some are not. Members are also often spouses."

Other duties of the association include conducting an annual membership drive and assisting with fund-raising activities. The association also reunites and solicits involvement from former RiverHawks and Redmen.

"The major project that they undertake is the annual golf tournament, which this year is June 7 at Cherokee Hills in Catoosa," Pettus said. "They're responsible for planning the event, selling sponsorships signs, gathering corporate sponsors, running the event. The second thing that they're heavily involved with is our Athletic Hall of Fame.

Pettus said the Athletic Association membership has "good numbers, but we would like to have great numbers." He also lauded the current membership for its support.

"This is a great group of men and women that are very passionate about Northeastern State," he said. "They truly care. They have great intentions, they're hard-working and they're dedicated and we need them to continue to be great ambassadors for us."
