NSUBA announces Musick as new Student Development Counselor

Published: 2010-12-02

BROKEN ARROW-- Northeastern State University Broken Arrow recently announced Brent Musick, M.A., LPC, will serve as Student Development Counselor in the Office of Student Affairs.

NSU has already been such a positive experience for me. Everyone has been extremely helpful and friendly, and it's great to be in an atmosphere where so many are working hard toward positive goals, said Musick.

Musick received a bachelor of arts in Psychology from Arizona State University and a master of arts in clinical psychology from Duquesne University. He has over 10 years experience providing counseling services and currently provides licensure clinical supervision for future Licensed Professional Counselors.

Musick said the most common issues that students typically present within a campus setting are coping with excessive stress and anxiety, experiencing depression, relational issues, loss and grief, crisis intervention and challenges with decision making or procrastination regarding their education.

If a student requests services that are not available or they require more intensive, long-term services, appropriate community referrals will be given, said Musick.

Studies have shown that while nearly one out of every five individuals will experience mental health issues in a year, less than 20 percent actually seek out and receive services.

Musick said he always thought he would enjoy working in a university setting where the overall goal is education and personal growth.

In the future, I plan on having a private practice location and I hope to eventually teach a class at the undergraduate level, said Musick.
