The new fitness and nature trail under construction at Northeastern State University-Broken Arrow is nearing completion with a mid-December deadline approaching.
More than 50 percent of the cement has been poured and joggers, walkers and bird watchers can observe the winding path of the concrete steadily making progress around the NSUBA campus.
The trail will give the community opportunities to improve physical fitness and enjoy viewing nature.
This development on the Broken Arrow campus will enrich the campus and the overall student experience, said Broken Arrow junior Starr O Neal.
Upon the project's completion, a schedule of events will be held to celebrate the opening of the trail, featuring an interactive grand opening.
Youll need to get your fitness shoes on for walking or running; or get your helmet on and your bike shoes and your bike ready to go," said Dr. Christee Jenlink, dean of NSUBA. "We are going to have all kinds of fitness facilities at our grand opening. We want everybody involved.
The new nature and fitness trail will offer several workout stations, a community gazebo for resting and a pergola and seating area overlooking the scenic pond.
The trail will be a great addition to our campus and to the Broken Arrow community as a whole, said Eric Yost, assistant director of physical plant operations.
As an extension, the path will loop into the Liberty Trail that runs along the Creek Turnpike through Broken Arrow and Tulsa.
The trail being on campus will give students, faculty and the administration a place for a quick jog or bike ride at their convenience.
The fitness trail will benefit the university by influencing health and wellness, as well as getting more students involved on campus, said Anna Robinson, a graduate assistant for the Office of Student Affairs.
