Silver-Parker to lecture at NSU on women's movement

The College of Business & Technology at Northeastern State University welcomes business executive and gender equality advocate Esther Silver-Parker November 3 to its campuses in Tahlequah and Broken Arrow.

Silver-Parker's lecture,Women and Business: Still a merger in progress, is slated for 1:00 p.m. in the University Center Herb Rozell Ballroom on the Tahlequah campus and at 5:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of Building A on the Broken Arrow campus.

During her appearance at NSU, Silver-Parker will share her perspective on the progress of the womens movement in U.S. business and the larger American society, while offering some reality rooted career advice to young people considering a career in business. A Q&A session will follow.

Silver-Parker has gone from a small town upbringing in the rural South to executive positions with AT&T and Walmart, as well as the presidency of the International Worlds Forum. Today, she is a full-time advocate for gender equality and has helped develop empowerment programs for women and girls around the world.

Ms. Silver-Parker has an extensive background. Shes someone I would like to see our students emulate, said Dr. John Schleede, Dean of the College of Business & Technology. She grew up relatively poor during the civil rights movement, and became the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Walmart, then went on to become President of Corporate Affairs and President of the AT&T Foundation at AT&T.

The College of the Business & Technology offers three lectures per semester, one featuring a Battenfield-Carletti Distinguished Entrepreneur, the others addressing topics such as careers and current issues.
