Bearfoot concert wraps NSU Galaxy of Stars series

(Tahlequah, OK)--The Sequoyah Institute at Northeastern State University ends its 24th annual Galaxy of Stars series with a concert by Bearfoot on Saturday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tahlequah High School Performing Arts Center.

"We're really excited to be bringing Bearfoot to Tahlequah at this time in their careers," said Amber Cowan, Galaxy of Stars series director. "I think they will appeal to many of the diverse groups in Tahlequah and the surrounding area.

Bearfoot's most recent album, Doors and Windows, was released April 21, 2009 and received critical praise as a further evolution of the band's bluegrass-but-not-bluegrass style.

"Since the release of their latest album they've really gained an even larger following," Cowan said. "The album is very uplifting and has great energy."

The Alaska band features twin fiddles, mandolin, guitar, upright bass and harmonious vocals. Bearfoot's approach to bluegrass and Americana music includes evocative three-part harmonies, original songs and blues-style contemporary covers. They received one of roots music's most prestigious awards when they were named Telluride Bluegrass Band champions an honor they share with Nickel Creek and the Dixie Chicks.

After the performance, Two of Bearfoot's members will host a guitar and mandolin workshop at the THSPAC.
