Northeastern State University was the recipient of three Council for Advancement and Support of Education Awards during the CASE Southwest District IV Conference in Austin, Texas, on March 27-30.NSU competed against schools from Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Texas and Mexico.
A staff member also received a service award.
NSU's big winner was Project Reconnect. It won the Grand Award for the Best New Alumni Program. Project Reconnect also received the Award of Excellence for Outstanding Advancement Project.
Project Reconnect is an effort that was started by the NSU Alumni Association in 2006 to re-establish contact with NSU alumni. The program has added or updated the contact information on more than 30,000 names. This new information allows the Association to keep alumni updated on alumni activities and campus events.
The program grew NSU's alumni list in two phases. The first was hand-entering information from old student files in the Office of Admissions and Records. The second involved tracking down current contact information. Also, known alumni were contacted via e-mail, magazines and special events and asked to help locate alumni. Alumni can still assist in this effort by visiting www.nsualumni.com/reconnect.
Communications and Marketing received the Grand Award among Radio Spots for "NSU Answers-Radio." The ad promoted the 2009 NSU Answers campaign, which encouraged students to submit online questions about university life, academics and policy. Among those who submitted queries, an incoming freshman, a returning student and a transfer student each received a $2,500 tuition waiver.
Robin Johnson, financial services coordinator for development, was recognized for 20 years of service. Her certificate cited her "dedicated professional commitment to the advancement and support of excellence in our American educational institutions."
