Cambiano Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Dr. Ron Cambiano, dean of Student Affairs at Northeastern State University, received
the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oklahoma College Student Personnel Association
last week, honoring his commitment to improving the college experience for students.
"It's a very humbling experience," said Cambiano. "I was caught completely off guard
when they announced it. It's great to be acknowledged by your peers and the professional
organization, it's a great acknowledgement for all your efforts."
Cambiano was honored by the OCSPA at the organization's annual banquet held at the
University of Oklahoma. Former and current students and colleagues wrote letters of
recommendation for Cambiano, which were read at the banquet.
"You don't really know the effect you have on someone until later in life," said Cambiano,
who has served as dean for 17 years. "You don't always get to see the fruits of your
labor, but you hope you have made an impact."
The Oklahoma College Student Personnel Association Lifetime Achievement Award honors
individuals who have made substantial contributions within the area of student affairs.
Individuals are recognized for demonstrating extraordinary strength of character,
commitment to student success, a history of service in student affairs, and significant
contributions to OCSPA.
Cambiano shares credit for the award with the staff he has worked with during his
years at NSU.
"You don't do this alone," he said. "It takes many people and the contributions of
everyone to be successful. This is an acknowledgement of everyone I've been associated
with for their efforts in working with students."
