Sixteen students at Northeastern State University-Broken Arrow have been chosen by the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce to each receive $1,000 scholarships.
Recipients of the scholarship, which pays $500 per semester, are Iruthiaraj Arulsamy, Ashley Bowser, Emily Bruza, Brenda Chambers, Cheree Christianson, Brandi Finley, Chelice Fleishacker, Carrie Hopper, LaDawn Johnson, Pamela Jones, Paige Lindemann, Sara Mahmood, Robin Mayo, Steven Schwab, Jennifer Stout, and Christina Watson.
The Broken Arrow Chamber established and distributes the scholarships as one of its workforce strategies to support NSUBA's growth and develop and retain a talented labor pool with a high level of education.
To be eligible, applicants must be juniors, seniors or graduates taking at least six hours at NSUBA, possess at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average, be a Broken Arrow resident or Broken Arrow High School graduate and submit a letter of recommendation.
The scholarships are supported by an endowment with the NSU Foundation.
Each year the BACOC hosts its benefit golf tournament to further fund the scholarships and other economic development efforts. The chamber partners with the NSU Alumni Association to organize the tournament.
