NSU announces Spring 2011 Commencement schedule

Published: 2011-04-11

(Tahlequah, OK)--Northeastern State University will hold its Spring 2011 Commencement ceremonies on May 6-7 in Tahlequah and May 9 in Broken Arrow.

The goal of the commencement ceremonies is to celebrate the success of our students who have worked so hard to earn a college degree and better their lives, said Bill Nowlin, dean of enrollment management and registrar. It allows their family, friends and faculty to share in this special occasion.

The Tahlequah ceremonies will be in Jack Dobbins Field House. The College of Education ceremony is May 6 at 7 p.m. On May 7 the College of Science and Health Professions and the College of Optometry hold graduation at 8:45 a.m. followed by the College of Business and Technology commencement at 11:30 a.m. The final commencement exercise is conducted by the College of Liberal Arts at 2:15 p.m.

The Broken Arrow ceremony will be held in the Union Multipurpose Activity Center at 7 p.m. for all colleges.

Since the ceremonies are indoors, we don't have to worry about the weather, said Nowlin. We anticipate around 10,000 people will attend between the Tahlequah ceremonies and the one for Broken Arrow.

For the Spring and Summer 2011 terms, there are 1,340 students applying for graduation. There are 1,073 bachelor's applications, 240 master's and 27 doctorates.

In 2010 1,300 students applied for spring graduation. Of those, 1,066 were bachelor's degrees, 231 were master's and 26 were doctorates.

We will be releasing more information in early April on the Web site and by e-mail to our graduates, said Nowlin.

Graduates, visit the commencement webpage for more information and instructions.
