Published: 2010-02-08

The Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma, supported by the University of Oklahoma and Confucius Headquarters, recently announced the opening of just the second Confucius Institute Classroom in the southern United States at Northeastern State University-Broken Arrow.

In conjunction with the opening of the NSU Confucius Classroom a performance of the Beijing Normal University Art Troupe is Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Building A Auditorium to celebrate the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Tiger.

The BNU Art Troupe is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from the prestigious university. This exceptional troupe will perform a selection of their talents including dances, Peking Opera and traditional Chinese instruments. The audience will enjoy the music, folklore and martial arts of Chinese culture and history dating as far as the Han Dynasty of 2,000 years ago.

The performance is free and open to the public. Anyone needing special accommodations for seating can contact NSU Student Affairs at 918-449-6140.

The establishment of NSU-BA's Confucius Classroom enhances OUCIs efforts to develop Chinese language education and cultural and business exchanges with the Peoples Republic of China. It also creates opportunities for NSU to expand academic ties with Chinese institutions.

The Confucius Institute is a global network numbering more than 120 institutes in 50 countries. At OU and NSU-BA, it seeks to facilitate engagement with China in ways that strengthen the understanding, opportunities and bonds between the people of the south central United States and China.
