NSU's 2010 Emerald Ball is Dec. 4

Published: 2010-11-10

Northeastern State University's 13th annual Emerald Ball, "Charting the Second Century," has been scheduled for Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center Sen. Herb Rozell Ballroom.

"The Emerald Ball is the Alumni Association's annual formal recognition of the alumni honorees including the Distinguished Alumni and the Outstanding Young Alumnus," said Daniel Johnson, director of alumni services. "The recipient of the President's Award for Community Service is honored at this time as well."

Selected by the Alumni Association, the Distinguished Alumni are Dr. Lowell Lehman and LTC Ron Quiett, and the honoree for Outstanding Young Alumna is Dr. Dawn Holsted. State Superintendent for Public Instruction Sandy Garrett is the honoree for the President's Award for Community Service, selected by NSU President Don Betz.

"It is a black-tie-optional affair, or in our case, green tie," said Johnson. "The guests are treated to a nice meal and a short program followed by live entertainment and dancing."

Tickets are $75 for Alumni Association members and $90 for non-members. Johnson said invitations are now being sent to the alumni, faculty and staff. Friends and partners of the university are also invited.

"We see the Emerald Ball as the holiday event of the season," said Johnson. "Next to homecoming, it is the biggest event undertaking of the Alumni Association and we feel it is a very appropriate way to honor these individuals who have done so much, each in their own way, for the region, the state and even the nation."

Tickets may be purchased online or by calling the Office of Alumni and Development at 918-458-2143.

"We look forward every year to sharing this evening with our honorees and we pull out all the stops to make it an especially memorable occasion for them," said Johnson.
