Emergency Exercise Drill Announcements

EMERGENCY DRILL:

The bomb has been neutralized by OHP bomb squad and Hazmat has finished working in Leoser.

The emergency exercise has been completed and the Leoser complex is now open to residents.

An update of all the events from today's drill will be available in an upcoming issue of RiverHawks Daily.

EMERGENCY DRILL:

TAHLEQUAH -- 12:25 p.m. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol bomb squad remains on the scene to address the explosive device found in a car near Courtside apartments.

Hazmat is on site at the Leoser complex to neutralize contamination from the explosion on the 3rd floor.

A joint information center for media has been set up in the Webb Auditorium.

The third floor of North Leoser has sustained substantial damage and 120 students have been displaced from the Leoser complex.

There are 37 confirmed injuries which have been relocated to area hospitals. No names have been released at this point. Concerned family members can go to the Shawnee Street Theater where the Family Assistance Center has been established.

EMERGENCY DRILL:

TAHLEQUAH -- 11:39 a.m. The cause of the fire in North Leoser has been confirmed as a meth lab explosion. There is some contamination of the area, but it is under control by fire department.

A third shooter was originally reported on the 3rd floor of North Leoser with one hostage, but this was a false report to 911. Area has since then been cleared.

Special Operations Teams have moved into the South Leoser lounge and assisted with release of hostages. The two assailants are now in custody. Victims have been transported to the hospital and hostages have been released and are with NSU Counseling Services staff.

We have also confirmed an explosive device has been found in a maroon vehicle near Courtside Apartments. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol bomb squad is on the scene.

EMERGENCY DRILL:

TAHLEQUAH -- As of 10:51 a.m. two NSU Campus Emergency Response Team members have been shot.

Armed assailants are suspected to be two white males who have barricaded themselves in the South Leoser Lounge with 11 hostages. Condition of the hostages is not known at this time.

Students may go to the Jack Dobbins Field House as a safe spot.

The family assistance center has been established at the Shawnee Street Theater on 124 West Shawnee for those with relatives affected. Staff will be on hand for help.

More details will come as they are made available.

TAHLEQUAH -- At 10:12 a.m. an explosion was reported to campus police in North Leoser hall, 3rd floor. A chemical smell has been associated with the incident and evacuation has been made.

There are injuries reported and fire and EMS are on the scene. Information on the family assistance center will be disclosed soon.

The campus emergency response team has been assembled, and more details will follow.
