Northeastern Optometry Professor Presents to Eye Institute

Published: 2006-05-05

Northeastern State University Dean of Optometry Dr. George E. Foster recently presented at the National Eye Institute's VISION meeting. Foster joined more than 50 colleagues with the Institute's Public Information Network in Charleston, South Carolina, for the Network's annual meeting.

The prestigious Institute formed the Network 11 years ago to communicate vision research results to the public through its grantee institutions. The Network strives to bring research results from institutions like NSU's College of Optometry to the public, and, according to a recent review, they are succeeding. The evaluation, which was supported by the National Institutes of Health, found that the Network facilitated well coordinated media coverage of research results, ensuring that the public is informed about important new procedures and advances.

In addition to sharing results, contributors like Dr. Foster also enjoyed an afternoon at the Storm Eye Institute for three scientific lectures and a tour of the research facilities. Meeting topics included healthcare marketing and branding, new communication technologies, employee communication, and NEI funding opportunities.
