NSU's Galaxy of Stars presents New Krupa Orchestra

(Tahlequah, OK)--The spring season of the 25th annual Galaxy of Stars series, sponsored by Northeastern State University, opens with the New Gene Krupa Orchestra paying tribute to Frank Sinatra on Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tahlequah High School Performing Arts Center.??
"A Salute to Ol' Blue Eyes" features drummer conductor Michael Berkowitz and his New Gene Krupa Orchestra, named for his musical idol, playing big band tunes made famous by The Chairman of the Board. Berkowitz's witty banter, charisma and his orchestra's expertise create an extraordinary musical experience for the audience.??
Performing with the orchestra is Dr. Tommy Poole, NSU jazz studies director.
??Berkowitz will deliver a pre-show lecture at 6 p.m. in the THSPAC. He will discuss the history of big band music and the iconic Krupa, a jazz and big band drummer renowned for his energy and showmanship. The lecture is open to the public.
