NSU's Galaxy of Stars presents An Irish Christmas on Dec. 10

The Galaxy of Stars series, sponsored by Northeastern State University, continues with the performance of An Irish Christmas with Connie Dover and Glen Road on Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tahlequah High School Performing Arts Center.

An Irish Christmas features holiday songs in the Celtic tradition. Ballads and stories will be sang and told with Irish wit and charm and the performers create a fun atmosphere for the audience and present a program with good humor.

Born in Arkansas and raised in Missouri, Dover discovered the Celtic music tradition as a teen and has devoted her life to the collection, preservation and performance of traditional songs and ballads. Her history degree, earned from William Jewell College, and her undergraduate work at Oxford University have further enriched her perspective of the cultural context of folk music, and her insightful interpretations bring ancient ballads to life. Her solo CDs "Somebody," "The Wishing Well," "If Ever I Return" and "The Border of Heaven," have garnered critical acclaim and firmly established her reputation as a world-class vocalist.

Mike Dugger, Turlach Boylan and Greg Brown comprise Glen Road. Dugger was a member of the bands Scartaglen and Sunrush and has taught folk fiddle. Boylan founded a recording label in Houston, big plain records, which promotes traditional Irish music in the U.S. Brown has taught at the Ottawa Folklore Center. All three are accomplished musicians on multiple instruments.
