NSU unveils lineup for 25th Galaxy of Stars Series

Northeastern State University proudly announces the season lineup for the 25th annual Galaxy of Stars series.

"This season will be very special as we celebrate 25 years of success with this remarkable series," said Amber Cowan, Galaxy of Stars director.

The series begins Oct. 10 with a performance by the Saint Louis Brass Quintet at 3 p.m. in the Tahlequah High School Performing Arts Center (THSPAC). The quintet was formed in 1964 by members of the St. Louis Symphony to perform concerts for children in the St. Louis area, and it is now one of the longest standing brass quintets in the U.S.

Members of the SLBQ are Allan Dean, professor for the Yale School of Music, on trumpet; Ray Sasaki, professor of music at the University of Texas, on trumpet; Thomas Bacon, soloist and recording artist, on horn; Melvyn Jernigan, founding member, on trombone and Daniel Perantoni, professor of music at Indiana University, on tuba.

Other series performances include Melody of China on Nov. 9, An Irish Christmas with Connie Dover and Glen Road on Dec. 10, The New Gene Krupa Orchestra featuring A Salute to Ol' Blue Eyes with conductor extraordinaire Michael Berkowitz on Feb. 22, Robin and Linda Williams and Their Fine Group on March 31 and Les Yeux Noirs on April 26. All shows are at the THSPAC at 7:30 p.m., except for the 3 p.m. start for the Saint Louis Brass Quintet.

"We're excited about the talented artists and diverse productions that will be coming to Tahlequah in the coming months," Cowan said. "We encourage community members of all ages to join us for each show and experience all that the arts have to offer throughout the season."
