Gilcrease Museum Features Award-Winning NSU Student Artwork

TULSA - For the first time ever, Northeastern State University has teamed up with the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa for an exhibition featuring award-winning NSU student art. The exhibition, currently on display in the Osage Restaurant at Gilcrease, showcases the best of show entries from the recent NSU Student Juried Competition held at the NSU Gallery in Tahlequah. In a historic collaboration, the museum generously offered exhibition space and the unique chance for NSU art students to show their work in a world-class facility.

"I'm delighted that we have the opportunity for our students to be able to have their artwork hanging in a venue like Gilcrease," said Bobby Martin, NSU assistant professor of Art. "It's also a wonderful way to show the people of Tulsa some of the best art that's coming out of NSU. It's great for our students and our program."

The student work is made up of a wide range of media, from oil painting to watercolor to printmaking. Each piece was the winning entry in its respective category in the Student Juried Show, with an overall Best of Show winner also on display. The juror was M. Teresa Valero, director of the School of Art at the University of Tulsa.

The Gilcrease-NSU exhibit was made possible by the efforts of many people, but Deborah Burke, Gilcrease Museum Curator of Education, was instrumental in organizing and coordinating the entire event. Thanks to Gilcrease, NSU students are getting a chance to have their art seen in one of the world's premier museums.

The exhibition continues throughout the summer, running through August 13.
