NSU announces events for homecoming week

Northeastern State University invites alumni and friends to campus for its 2010 Homecoming, "Welcome Back to Fabulous Northeastern State," with activities the week of Oct. 4-9.

The week begins with "Paint the Town Green" on Sunday from noon 5 p.m. on Muskogee Avenue and concludes Saturday with NSU's football game at 2 p.m. against Texas A&M-Commerce at Doc Wadley Stadium.

Also, NSU will present its annual awards to distinguished alumni. Dr. Lowell Lehman of Tulsa and Lt. Col. Ronald H. Quiett of El Paso, Texas, will each be honored as a Distinguished Alumnus. Dr. Dawn Holsted of Oklahoma City will be recognized as Outstanding Young Alumna and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Sandy Garrett of Oklahoma City will receive the President's Award for Community Service.

SUNDAY, OCT. 3
Paint the Town Green, Muskogee Avenue, noon 5 p.m.
Participants from campus and the community help local businesses decorate downtown Tahlequah. NSU student organizations compete for best window painting. Presented by BancFirst.

MONDAY, OCT. 4
Street Party, Muskogee Avenue between Goingsnake and Morgan street, 6-8 p.m.
Music, dancing, food vendors, children's games and the NSGA Chili Cook-off.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 6
Homecoming Candidate Campaigning and Elections, UC Lobby and Circle Drive, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Queen and King candidates lobby for Homecoming crowns. Student ID required to vote.

NAB Casino Night and Candidate Karaoke, UC Rozell Ballroom, 8-10 p.m.
Featuring games and music.

THURSDAY, OCT. 7
Homecoming Candidate Campaigning and Elections, UC Lobby and Circle Drive, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Queen and King candidates lobby for Homecoming crowns. Student ID required to vote.

Pep Rally and Bonfire, Beta Field, 7:30 - 9 p.m.
The traditional gathering and blaze with music and hot dogs and the build-up of school spirit in preparation for the homecoming football game.

FRIDAY, OCT. 8
Green and White Golf Classic, Cherry Springs, 10 a.m.
Open to NSU faculty, staff, alumni and the community. Entry fees to the scramble support the NSU Foundation. Participants play nine challenge holes and nine regular holes.

Alumni Champagne Bingo, University Center Rozell Ballroom, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Champagne and bingo with alumni and friends.

Come Home to the Dome, Indoor Practice Facility, 8 p.m.
A ceremonial kickoff to homecoming, the dome is the place to gather for reunions and reconnections. Live entertainment is provided by South 40, followed by a DJ and dancing. For help organizing a reunion, contact the Office of Alumni Services at 918-458-2143. Presented by Keetoowah Cherokee Casino.

SATURDAY, OCT. 9
Athletic Association Breakfast, 8 a.m., University Center Rozell Ballroom.

Homecoming Parade, 10 a.m., downtown Tahlequah to NSU. Float check-in 8 a.m.
The annual Homecoming Parade promotes school spirit and spotlights the best of NSU campus life.

Alumni Association Lifetime Member Reception, approx. 11 a.m., President's home.
President Don Betz and his wife Susanne invite the Alumni Association's life members to a casual gathering.

Reunion Tailgate Party, Reunion Field (practice field north of stadium), 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
