NSU Homecoming 2011

(Tahlequah, Okla.)Northeastern State Universitys 2011 homecoming week will have a super heroes theme, Truth, Justice and the Northeastern Way, with festivities the week of Oct. 9-15.

The week begins with Paint the Town Green on Muskogee Avenue and concludes with the football game at 2 p.m. against Harding at Doc Wadley Stadium, and womens soccer vs. Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m. at Dr. Dan F. DeLoache Field.

Also, NSU will present its annual awards to distinguished alumni. Former educator and lifelong volunteer Mary Battenfield (60) of Tulsa, actor-playwright Joe Sears (72) of Austin, Texas, and past educator and legislator Barbara Staggs (63) of Okmulgee will each be honored as Distinguished Alumni. Country music star Carrie Underwood (06) will be recognized as Distinguished Young Alumna and former state attorney general Drew Edmondson (68) of Oklahoma City will receive the Presidents Award for Community Service.

SUNDAY, OCT. 9
Paint the Town Green, Muskogee Avenue, noon 5 p.m.
Participants from campus and the community help local businesses decorate downtown Tahlequah. NSU student organizations compete for best window painting.

MONDAY, OCT. 10
BancFirst Street Party, downtown Tahlequah, 6-8 p.m.
Music, dancing, food vendors, childrens games and the NSGA Chili Cook-off.

THURSDAY, OCT. 13
Bonfire and Spirit Rally, Beta Field, 7:30 9 p.m.
The traditional gathering and blaze with music and hot dogs and the build-up of school spirit in preparation for the homecoming football game.

FRIDAY, OCT. 14
Liberty Mutual Green & White Golf Classic presented by the Alumni Association, Cherry Springs, 10 a.m.
Open to NSU alumni, faculty, staff and the community.

Century 21 21 Wright Real Estate Champagne Fashion Palooza, University Center Sen. Herb Rozell Ballroom, 11 a.m.
Champagne and high fashions with alumni and friends.

Keetoowah Casino Come Home to the Dome presented by the Alumni Association--"Homecomings Kickoff Extravaganza", Indoor Practice Facility, 8 p.m. midnight.
A kickoff to homecoming, the dome is the place to gather for reunions and reconnections. For help organizing a reunion, contact the Office of Alumni Services at 918-458-2143.

The NSU annual Homecoming Parade promotes school spirit and spotlights the best of NSU campus life.

Alumni Association Life Member Luncheon, Presidents back yard, 11 a.m.
A gathering for lifetime members of the NSU Alumni Association.

Reunion Tailgate Party, Doc Wadley Stadium north parking lot, 11 a.m.
Bring a lawn chair for this pre-game festivity.

Sodexo Green & White Network Cook-Out presented by the Alumni Association, football practice field under the green and white tent, noon.
Food, fun and open to the public.

Football Game: NSU vs Harding, Doc Wadley Stadium, 2 p.m.

Womens soccer: NSU vs. Central Oklahoma, Dr. Dan F. DeLoache Field, 7 p.m.
