Saturday caps NSU's homecoming week

Published: 2010-09-17

Students, alumni, faculty and the Tahlequah community will want to be on campus Oct. 9 for the game day events of Northeastern State University's homecoming, "Welcome Back to Fabulous Northeastern State."

The homecoming slogan spins off the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" theme.

The day's activities begin with the Athletic Association Breakfast at 8 a.m. in the University Center Rozell Ballroom. Current and former athletes and their guests may attend for story-telling and camaraderie.

Admission to the breakfast is $10. For more information, contact the Athletic Department at 918-444-3900 or visit www.goriverhawksgo.com.

The Homecoming Parade, beginning at 10 a.m., marches from downtown Tahlequah to Doc Wadley Stadium. Floats entered by the community and students help promote their organizations, campus life and school spirit. Float check-in is 8 a.m.

A number of events are scheduled after the parade. NSU men's and women's basketball will hold a free-throw shooting fundraiser in Jack Dobbins Field House. Entry fee is $50 and prizes are $1,000 for first place and $500 for second place. Entry deadline is Oct. 1. For more information, contact Ted Vancuren at 918-272-3305.

After the parade, President Don Betz and his wife Susanne welcome into their home lifetime members of the NSU Alumni Association. Those wishing to attend the casual gathering are asked to RSVP with the Office of Alumni Services at 918-458-2143.

The Reunion Tailgate Party runs 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Reunion Field by Doc Wadley Stadium. Attendees should bring plenty of picnic gear - lawn chairs and tables, beverages, snacks, grilling food and a big appetite and celebrate with friends old and new.

Highlighting the Saturday schedule is the 2 p.m. football game between NSU and Texas A&M-Commerce. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. NSU students, staff and faculty are admitted free with a valid NSU identification card.
