NSU to conduct M.L.K. Jr. Day of Service

Published: 2011-01-14

To observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 17, Northeastern State University will conduct a Day of Service which will include service in the public schools, distribution of school supplies and participation in the annual parade in Tulsa.

Classes will not be held and the university is encouraging participation and volunteerism among students, faculty and staff.

NSU will connect with local schools to perform work projects and provide school supplies. An estimated 220 volunteers will be needed to complete all the tasks. University volunteers have the option of volunteering from 10 a.m. noon, 1-3 p.m. or for both periods.

A contingent from NSU will also march in the Martin Luther King Commemorative Parade and Rally in Tulsa at 11 a.m. The parade route is along North Greenwood Avenue from East Pine Street to East Archer Street.

Those interested in volunteering or donating supplies can contact Barbara Fuller at fullerbe@nsuok.edu or the Office of Student Affairs at 918-444-2120.
