NSU homecoming festivities set for Sept. 24-30

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Northeastern State University will celebrate homecoming with a week of events and activities from Sept. 24-30. 

This year’s theme is “Welcome Back to Green Country” and celebrates the memories made by alumni and those currently being made by NSU students today. 

The celebration will begin on Sunday, Sept. 24 with the “Green Til I Dye” party at 6 p.m. in Second Century Square. 

This ceremonial kick-off to NSU’s homecoming week is free and open to the public and will also be livestreamed on the NSU Facebook page. The highlight of this event is the tradition of dying the fountain green. There will be tailgate games, food, performances by the spirit squads and greetings from NSU's new president, Dr. Rodney Hanley and others to officially kick off homecoming week.

The NSU women’s soccer team will also be going up against Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m. at DeLoache Field that afternoon. 

Festivities will continue on Monday, Sept. 25 with the BancFirst Street Party at 6 p.m. on Beta Field. 

The street party is free and open to the public and will include fun family-friendly games and attractions presented by student organizations and businesses. Attendees can look forward to entertainment and other activities throughout the evening. 

Men’s soccer will face Rogers State at 7 p.m. at DeLoach Field on Thursday, Sept. 28. A bonfire will also be held that evening at 7:45 p.m. at Beta Field. 

On Friday, Sept. 29 at 9 a.m. the Green & White Gold Classic returns. This event is sponsored by the Cherokee Nation and will take place at the Cherokee Springs Golf Course. The event includes complimentary lunch and beverages. Participants will receive a commemorative NSU gift with other great prizes up for grabs. Also happening Sept. 29 is Champagne Bingo at 11 a.m. in the NSU Event Center Community Room and Tahlequah Main Street’s Homecoming Happy Hour from 2-5 p.m. on Muskogee Avenue. Later that evening, this year’s alumni honorees will be formally honored at the Alumni Association Honors Reception presented by Liberty Mutual at 6 p.m. in the Webb Building. This year’s honorees are Distinguished Alumna Sara Hill ‘00, Distinguished Alumnus Loren Montgomery ‘00, Outstanding Young Alumnus Stephen Highers ‘05 and Outstanding Young Alumnus Brandon Robbins ‘06.

The River of Green Homecoming parade will take place on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. The parade will take place in downtown Tahlequah and run through NSU’s campus. The parade floats will also be on display to the public the evening prior outside of the Webb Building. 

After the parade, tailgating will begin at The Landing at Doc Wadley Stadium before NSU faces off against Pittsburg State at 2 p.m.
