NSU to hold 22nd annual Undergraduate Research Day

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The 22nd annual Undergraduate Research Day: A Celebration of Scholarly and Creative Activity will take place this week at Northeastern State University.

The yearly event provides a platform for undergraduate students to present their research and be recognized for it in a day of celebration on campus.

Dr. Mark Paulissen, professor of biology and co-chair of the NSU Undergraduate Research Steering Committee, said it’s gratifying to see students present their research year after year at the event.

“Undergraduates at NSU work very hard on their research projects and URD gives them a chance to share what they have done with other students, faculty, family members and the NSU community,” Paulissen said.

During the event, students will be present with their research poster to provide further context and discussion to attendees. This is something Paulissen notes as being a particularly important part about the event, and undergraduate research in general.

“Being able to explain your research to people who are not specialists in your area of study is an important skill that many scientists struggle to develop,” Paulissen said. “Having NSU students conduct research and then present it helps them develop this skill.”

The 22nd annual Undergraduate Research Day will be held on Wednesday, April 24 on the NSU Tahlequah campus. The undergraduate research poster presentations will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the University Center Ballroom. The Outstanding Scholar Presentations & Award Ceremony will take place from 1:30-3 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom Lounge.

The event is free and open to the public and family, friends and campus community members are encouraged to attend. Those interested can also tune in virtually for the afternoon session via Zoom ID: 941 5283 5922.

NSU students who attend the morning poster session will have the opportunity to cast a vote for the “Student Choice Award” best poster.
