NSU-BA to host Mechanical Engineering Open House – Nov. 5

NSU-Broken Arrow to host Mechanical Engineering Open House – Nov. 5

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – On Nov. 5, Northeastern State University Broken Arrow will be hosting an Open House in an effort to showcase the newly developed Mechanical Engineering program to high school students. Congressman Kevin Hern will be a keynote speaker at the event.

The open house is made possible by a partnership with NSU and the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce. The goal of the partnership is to gain additional traction for the program in the Tulsa metro area in an effort to directly bolster the state’s workforce, empowering Oklahoma’s Critical Occupations in the process.

“Mechanical engineering is a high demand, critical occupation, and the NSU Mechanical Engineering program reflects a great opportunity for our institution to serve students and the greater Broken Arrow/Tulsa community,” Dr. Martha Parrott, assistant dean of the Gregg Wadley College of Science & Health Professions, said.

The mechanical engineering program was first launched in the fall of 2023 on the Tahlequah campus. In the fall of 2024, the program made its debut on the NSU-Broken Arrow campus, allowing for additional pathways for students in the Tulsa metro.

Additionally, NSU and Tulsa Community College recently announced their partnership to offer students in the Tulsa area a transfer pathway to complete requirements for a Mechanical Engineering degree on the NSUBA campus.

“This event offers a firsthand look at our program in the hopes to inspire the next generation of mechanical engineers,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “In creating these partnerships, we are also creating new opportunities for students, fostering the kind of innovation that will strengthen our state’s workforce for years to come.”

The event will be held on Nov. 5 at the NSUBA Administration Building from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Congressmen Hern will deliver his keynote speech shortly after the welcoming remarks with additional speakers to follow.

Lunch will be provided along with tours of the engineering facilities and equipment demonstrations.
