NSU ushers in the holidays with the Good Yule Holiday Concert and Fundraiser

NSU ushers in the holidays with the Good Yule Holiday Concert and Fundraiser – Dec. 3

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University’s College of Liberal Arts is preparing to bring holiday cheer to the Tahlequah community with the Good Yule Holiday Concert and Fundraiser festivities on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Good Yule Holiday is an annual concert and fundraiser, presented by the NSU Department of Music, that follows Lights On. The concert features performances by the NSU Wind Ensemble, NSU Jazz Ensemble, University Singers, NSU Brass Ensemble and the NSU Opera Workshop, as well as several faculty performers, all culminating in a rousing finale featuring student performers.

“Expect a family-friendly holiday experience, from our music department family to yours,” Dr. Benjamin Hay, chair of the Department of Music, said. “It will be an immersive music experience, with many different styles as well as holiday favorites.”

Good Yule also serves as a fundraiser, with the proceeds going toward student travel expenses for the 2025 school year. Hay said they have held fundraisers alongside this event for years, but this year they intend to make fundraising more of an emphasis.

“We are working to raise money for students traveling to the OkMEA Winter Conference for the Intercollegiate Choir and Intercollegiate Band,” Hay said. “We also hope to help with upcoming ensemble performance tours. The University Singers, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble are all planning spring tours around the region.”

The evening’s activities will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of Seminary Hall, with the Lights On event presented by NSU Drama.

Lights On, which celebrates the lighting of the historic Seminary Hall, includes a pre-show of performances by choirs from Tahlequah elementary schools, NSU Pom and local dance studios. There will also be special appearances from Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves.

The Good Yule Holiday Concert and Fundraiser will follow Lights On, beginning at 7 p.m. at the NSU Center for Performing Arts. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students.
