NSU Sigma Tau Gamma Zeta chapter celebrates centennial anniversary

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University Fraternity Sigma Tau Gamma’s Zeta Chapter is preparing to celebrate the chapter’s 100th year on campus.

The Zeta Chapter was originally established at NSU in 1924, making it the sixth chapter in Sig Tau history. The chapter’s centennial celebration coincides with the 100th anniversary of NSU’s first homecoming in October.

“This is an exciting time for Greek Life, Sigma Tau Gamma, and most importantly, Northeastern State University,” Katie Cochran, associate director of student engagement, said. “Having an event to this magnitude will allow Greek Life to shine through during the biggest event of the year, Homecoming. It also helps us highlight such an important piece of our campus, our Greek Chapters, that do so much work and have such a dedication to the betterment of our institution.”

Cochran said that having these chapters on campus for so long shows that these fraternities and sororities on campus make such a huge impact on the students’ experiences and time while they are in college. Cochran said she hopes that other chapters will be inspired to share their story and celebrate their history as she looks to the future with the fraternity and sorority life programming on campus.

“We appreciate all that they do for our community,” Cochran said. “Our chapters truly do so much for our community on campus and within Tahlequah. We are very thankful for each chapter that is here and proud of those that are celebrating major milestones this year.”

The Zeta Chapter plans to hold a special homecoming reunion from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in the NSU University Center Ballroom.

“We are proud to celebrate this significant milestone,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “For 100 years, Sigma Tau Gamma has fostered leadership, brotherhood and service among our students and we are proud to celebrate their contribution to the university’s rich history.”
