NSU’s Das-Bradoo to receive Medal for Excellence Award

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Northeastern State University professor of biology, Dr. Sapna Das-Bradoo, was recently named the recipient of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence 2024 Medal for Excellence in Teaching at a Regional University & Community College Award.

“NSU is proud to be home to outstanding faculty, like Dr. Das-Bradoo, who foster academic excellence in our students year in and year out,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said.

Das-Bradoo received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in microbiology from the University of Delhi in India. She has served as an instructor on the NSU-Broken Arrow campus since 2011 and is currently interim chair for the Department of Natural Sciences.

Throughout her tenure, Das-Bradoo has prioritized creating an externally funded research program centered around students and has secured over $1.1 million for the university. She also organizes NSU’s Biology & Chemistry Seminar Series each semester, which brings experts from across the state to the Broken Arrow campus to share on topics in their areas of study.

For Das-Bradoo, her students are the most rewarding part of her job.

“The opportunity to work with awesome undergraduates in my classes and research laboratory is my reward,” Das-Bradoo said. “The students at NSU motivate and inspire me every day of my life. I forget all the stress in my life the moment I step into a classroom or a research lab. It is my form of meditation.”

Other Medal for Excellence Award recipients include: Jennifer Goldner, Jay Public Schools, Jill Andrews, Claremore Public Schools, Kevin Hime, Lawton Public Schools and Dr. Greg Burge, University of Oklahoma.

Recipients will be honored at OFE’s 38th annual Academic Awards Celebration on Saturday, May 4 at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center in Norman. Each educator will receive a $5,000 cash prize and an etched glass “Roots and Wings” sculpture.
