Grand Opening Set For NSU Science Center

Published: 2006-09-20

TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University and the NSU College of Science and Health Professions will host a celebration commemorating the grand opening of the NSU Science Center on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m.

The completion of the Science Center marks a milestone for Northeastern and provides greater opportunities for our students pursuing careers in the science and health sectors, said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams. We welcome this occasion for University students, alumni, friends and community members to tour our new facility.

Funded by a $10 million revenue bond issued by the University, the NSU Science Center was designed by the Dewberry Design Group in Tulsa as the first phase of renovations to the institutions science facilities. The next project is the renovation of classrooms in the adjacent Science Building, built in 1956, made possible through the higher education bond issue.

The three-story science laboratory building, connected to the current science facility, encompasses 62,000 square feet with space for both teaching and research of physics, chemistry and biology. The facility houses 26 laboratories and can serve over 400 students per lab session.

The NSU College of Science and Health Professions offers 15 undergraduate degree programs and 14 pre-professional programs.

The Science Center will be open for tours following the grand opening celebration. Following the festivities, NSU will host a tailgating party in the Rowdyville Parking Lot north of Doc Wadley Stadium starting at 12:30 p.m. Northeastern takes on Abilene Christian University at 2 p.m.
