Sequoyah Institute present the 31st season of River City Players

Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Northeastern State Universitys River City Players (RCP) is gearing up for its 2016 season. Rock & Roll is Here to Stay, River City Opry and River City Mixtape will be this seasons shows, beginningJune 16and running throughAugust 6.
Performances will take place in the NSU Playhouse and tickets cost $13 for adults, $11 for NSU alumni and employees, $10 for seniors and groups, $7 for children and students and NSU students with valid NSU ID are free.
RCP was created in 1983 by C.H. Parker, now-retired NSU instructor of speech and theater and the late Joe Davis, NSU jazz studies director. In 1995, Parker met Tim Gilliam, who had recently returned from performing in Nashville, and the two created Downtown Country, the universitys annual Branson-style show, with live country music. This show eventually evolved into what is now the 31st season of RCP.
RCP is filled with talent from the university and is directed by Dr. Robyn Pursley, associate professor of Theatre, and Scott Pursley, assistant professor and auditorium manager of Theatre along with production manager and technical director of the show. The cast includes university students, Michael Rappe, Hansen Johnson, Adam Childress and Sydney Rappeall returning cast members from last year; former RCP cast member, Melodie Wann and new cast members Lyndie Benton and Trico Blue. Tahlequah High School student, Lyric Peterson, is also a new addition to the performing group. Johnson will serve as the music director this year, Sydney Rappe will be choreograph the shows, and Farren Mayfield will work as the band director.
Rock & Roll is Here to Stay is a trip down memory lane where the audience will revisit all of their favorites from the golden age of rock and roll from The Coasters to The Beatles. This concert takes place on Saturdays at 2 p.m.with a special Friday matinee at2 p.m.July 15 and July 29 only.
River City Mixtape is a show that every generation can identify with during a special soundtrack of chart-topping hits that make up a mixtape of generations. The show will be Thursdays and Saturdays at7:30 p.m.
River City Opry is following in the footsteps of the Grand Ole Opry tradition and will pay tribute to country legends and chart-topping country music. This show will take place on Fridays at7:30 p.m.
