NRA Foundation Makes Donation To NSU, THS ROTC Programs

Published: 2006-06-29

TAHLEQUAH Northeastern State University and Tahlequah Public Schools recently received donations from the National Rifle Association Foundation and Friends of NRA for ROTC programs.

The generosity will allow us to purchase equipment and allow us to continue to support our marksmanship program, said Capt. Jason Junkens, NSU ROTC Scholarship and Enrollments Officer. Because of this program we will be able to offer two additional $1,000 scholarships for our cadets.

Friends of NRA Committee Chairman Leonard Wilkins presented NSU President Larry Williams and TPS Superintendent Paul Hurst with the donations.

The NRA Foundation is a charitable organization that supports shooting sports programs around the country. Friends of NRA is a grassroots fundraising program that fosters community involvement, with funds going to support shooting sports and gun safety programs. The NRA Foundation donated about $1,800 to NSU ROTC.

Were proud of the success of the ROTC program at Northeastern, said NSU President Williams. Since its inception in Spring 2003, the program has continued to grow and offer opportunities for our cadets, who bring pride to the university.

TPS, who received about $3,200, will also use the donation to purchase additional equipment for the JROTC program at THS.

Supporting programs like those at Northeastern and Tahlequah High School is one of our biggest goals, said Wilkins, Committee Chairman for Friends of NRA. Friends of NRA support programs like this across the nation.

Friends of NRA are planning their annual banquet, set for July 15 at the Dome at NSU. The banquet is a major fundraiser for the organization. To buy tickets, contact Wilkins at 918-456-0585.
