Published: 2011-08-26

(Tahlequah, Okla.)--The first lecture of the Northeastern State University Fall 2011 Science and Technology Seminar Series is Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. in the Science Building, room 160. Dr. Piers Hale, of the Department of the History of Science at the University of Oklahoma, will present A Liberal Descent: The Politics of Darwinian Evolution.

Hale is conducting research about the impact of Charles Darwins book, On the Origin of Species, on political debate since the work was first published in 1859. He is also studying the writings of Darwin supporters including Charles Kingsley and John Tyndall, as well as disparate 19th century scholarly works which provide insight into the development of biological science as a discipline.

The Science and Technology Seminar Series is coordinated by Dr. John de Banzie, NSU professor of biology. For more information, contact de Banzie at 918-444-3828 or debanzie@nsuok.edu.
