When Northeastern State University entered its second century, it celebrated by adding new construction to the institution. Work continues on the Second Century Square, a scenic gathering place for students and university events located just north of the University Center.
The plan is to open the west side of the project in the next two to three weeks and the remaining portion of the project in early May, said Tim Foutch, vice president for operations.
Foutch said much of the completed work is underground and addressed drainage issues. The majority of the west side concrete work is complete and landscaping and planting has begun. Recommissioning of the fountain is under way and the clock is installed.
Concrete layout work has begun on the east side and additional underground drainage work is scheduled, followed by landscaping and planting. An east side archway entry sign will be installed, and an awning over the stage will complete the project.
This project will provide prime outdoor space for formal and informal student gatherings, concerts, special events of all types and represent and symbolize the beginning of the university's second century of service, said Foutch.
