Second Century Camp at NSU features 'CSI Science'

Tahlequah, Okla. Northeastern State Universitys Second Century Camps for kids continue July 5-8 with CSI Science. Enrollment for the camp has been expanded and openings are available.

CSI Science is intended for ages 8-up. The camp is offered by the communication, art and theatre department in the College of Liberal Arts.

The first part of the camp will focus on how evidence is collected, such as fingerprints, said David Fuller, instructor of the camp. On Thursday, we will stage a crime scene and campers will use what they have learned to collect evidence and determine the perpetrator. It will be much like a living game of Clue.

A drama teacher at Tahlequah Middle School and the speech and debate coach at Tahlequah High School, Fuller has been an instructor for the Second Century Camps since their origination in 2009. He will also teach the Mythbusters: Science camp July 11-15 and the Light, Drama, Action camp July 18-22.

The science camps have always been popular, Fuller said. However, the CSI Science camp is something we've never done before. Campers who have taken other Second Century science camps will get to do something completely new.

Fuller said parents are welcome to visit for the Thursday crime scene exercise. On Friday, the campers take a field trip to visit with officers of the Tulsa Police Department and attend an afternoon movie.

Price is $125 per camper, which includes lunch and a snack. The camp runs for four days from 8:30 a.m. 5 p.m. Drop off and pick up is at the NSU University Center.
