NSU Speech and Debate scores again

(Tahlequah, Okla.)-- Northeastern State Universitys Speech and Debate team brought home big wins from their last competition on Feb. 27 and 26 at Oklahoma City University for the Intercollegiate Forensics Associations State Competition.
At the tournament, NSU senior Anthony Woodall brought home first place and State Champion in Extemp and Communication Analysis Speech, fifth place in Program of Oral Interpretation (POI) and third in Impromptu and Poetry.
State is always my favorite tournament of the year. Things can get stressful at competitions elsewhere but everyone is at their best when we compete in Oklahoma City, Woodall said, whoalso brought home second in Pentath for the tournament.
This was Woodalls last collegiate competition and finished his competitive season with 35 trophies, a personal best.
Brooke McClary took sixth place in POI and Poetry and fifth place in Dramatic Interpretation.
Connor White brought home sixth place in Dramatic Interpretation and third place in Duo with her partner, Woodall.
Gemini Creason took secondand State Champion in POI, After Dinner Speaking, Informative, first place and State Champion in Prose, sixth in Extemp, second in CA and first place in Pentath.
With all these awards the four-person team was able to accomplish great goals, winning first place overall in Individual Event Sweepstakes and third place overall.
Eleven schools from all over the region competed and this was NSUs last tournament of the season.
This year turned out to be the best for Coaches Dr. Kristopher Copeland and Kendrea James, as the team was able to bring home a total of 137 trophies.
This years team was so committed to their craft. Not only did they grow as speakers, they continuously developed their leadership skills, experiences in group work, and sharpened their critical thinking, Copeland said.
He said the team is already building new pieces and preparing for the next season, which begins in the fall.
