(Tahlequah, OK)--The Northeastern State University competitive speech and debate team won seven awards at the OKIE Roundup Speech Tournament at Oklahoma City University on Feb. 25-26.
The OKIE Roundup is a state tournament, but schools from outside Oklahoma can participate. NSU's six-student team was among 14 colleges and universities competing.
Kristopher Copeland, instructor of communication studies, directs the NSU competitive speech team. Under his direction, the team has won more than 20 awards for the competition year.
"These students really put forth a tremendous effort," Copeland said. "Their success at the state tournament is a reflection of their dedication to this extra-curricular activity. They make my job easy because they work so hard."

Heather Odle, Kansas, Okla., junior, finished third in Informative Speaking, fifth in Communication Analysis and sixth in Duo.
