NSU Stars in the Summer Series begins June 16

Tahlequah, Okla. Tickets are on sale now for Northeastern State Universitys Stars in the Summer series presented by the Sequoyah Institute.

This summer, audiences can join the Downtown Country cast and honor a great tradition in country music the Grand Ole Opry. A Grand Ole Celebration retraces the Oprys beginnings as the WSM Barn Dance, relives days spent at the historic Ryman Auditorium, rejoices in its renovation after the recent Nashville flood and revels in its continued success as the worlds longest running live radio program. In the production of This is Country Music!, audiences will experience Downtown Countrys one-of-a-kind show filled with hope, patriotism, faith and special tributes to legendary country music artists that will have patrons on their feet and cheering.

River City Players will take music fans on a trip down a doo-wop memory land with their production of River City Classic: Hits of the 50s and 60s. The cast will revisit favorites from the golden age of rock n roll. From the Platters to the Beatles, this journey will have guests be-bopping in their seats. Audiences can also rock to River City Retro: Hits of the 70s and 80s. The Players pay tribute to bellbottoms and legwarmers, salute icons like Queen, Michael Jackson and the Bangles, and bring back cult classics like Kung Fu Fighting and YMCA.

Shows runs June 16 August 6 with performances every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m.

A Grand Ole Celebration is performed Fridays and as the Saturday matinee. This is Country Music! is presented on Thursday and Saturday evenings. Shows are at the University Playhouse at 300 N. Muskogee Ave. in Tahlequah.

The River City Players venue is the Shawnee Street Theatre at 124 W. Shawnee St. in Tahlequah. River City Classic: Hits of the 50s and 60s is put on Fridays and Saturday afternoons. River City Retro: Hits of the 70s and 80s is performed Thursday and Saturday evenings.

Tickets are now on sale for the Stars in the Summer series. Prices are $12 for adults, $10 for NSU alumni and employees, $8 for seniors 60-and-over and groups of 12 or more, $6 for students and children. An early bird discount of $1 is available on all tickets booked for June performances.
