Appointing a Court The Supreme Courts Impact on America, the inaugural Larry Adair Lectureship Series presented by Northeastern State University, will examine the process of appointing Supreme Court justices and the significance the courts decisions have on the country.
With the recent appointment of two new justices to the U.S. Supreme Court, this is a timely topic for our students and the community to examine, said NSU President Dr. Larry Williams. The implications of the confirmation process and the decisions the court makes every year have a wide-ranging and lasting impact on our society.
A public forum is set for Friday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the NET Building on the NSU campus. Panelists include Oklahoma Supreme Court Justices Jim Edmondson and Yvonne Kauger, Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson, Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith, former U.S. Congressman Brad Carson, and NSU Professor of Political Science Dr. Justin Halpern.
Following discussion on the main topic, audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists.
The Larry Adair Lectureship Series was established in 2004 by friends and family of the retiring Oklahoma Speaker of the House to create an annual forum to address issues in politics, government and public policy.
