Tadlock named as NSU interim president

(Tahlequah, Okla.)Michael W. Mitchel, Chair of the Regional University System of Oklahoma, named Dr. Martin Tadlock as interim president at Northeastern State University.

Tadlock has been serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs since January 2010. He brings more than 25 years of higher education experience to the position. He will assume the interim position on Aug. 1 to replace Dr. Don Betz, who will serve as the next president at the University of Central Oklahoma.

I appreciate the confidence the Regents have shown in me by appointing me to this critical position at this key point in time. Northeastern, under President Betzs visionary leadership, has clearly identified its role and its course of action in providing a quality education to our students and in collaborating with our regional partners to ensure our communities are economically viable and self-sufficient. As a university, we are headed on the correct trajectory and I will work diligently with our entire campus community of students, faculty and staff to stay that course, Tadlock said.

President Don Betz said he was pleased with the Boards decision. Martin Tadlock fully understands the history, culture and mission of Northeastern throughout our 21-county service area. We have many varying demands placed upon us because of the distinct needs of our three campuses in Tahlequah, Muskogee and Broken Arrow.

Provost Tadlock has exceptional energy and a great affection for Northeastern. I fully expect NSU to make progress on fulfilling its obligations to our students and regional partners.

Tadlock, who holds a doctorate in administration and leadership from Miami (Ohio) University and a master's degree in English secondary education from Utah State University, previously served as dean of extended learning at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He has been dean of the College of Professional Studies, graduate dean and professor of Educational Leadership at California State-Monterey Bay; dean of the College of Professional Studies, dean of the School of Graduate Studies and professor of Professional Education at Bemidji State University; and interim associate dean of the College of Education, Middle Level Education coordinator and program chair, and associate professor in the department of Elementary Education at Utah State.

A four person committee of regents has been appointed to launch the process to select a permanent successor for President Betz.
