TAHLEQUAH - When Trout Fishing in America takes the stage in Tahlequah don't expect
to see a fishing demonstration. This talented duo is all about the music.
Northeastern State University and The Sequoyah Institute will present Trout Fishing
in America on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the NSU Center for the Performing
Arts. The performance is also sponsored by Tahlequah Pediatrics.
"Trout Fishing in America is a dynamic family music experience," said Megan White,
director of The Sequoyah Institute. "With a combination of story-telling lyrics and
strong instrumentals, the show is a can't miss for kids and adults alike."
Guitarist Ezra Idlet and bassist Keith Grimwood created Trout Fishing in America in
1979, after meeting as members of the Houston-based folk/rock band St. Elmo's Fire.
The duo has released 13 albums, including the latest "My Best Day."
Combining an eclectic assortment of folk/pop and family music with reggae, latin,
blues, jazz and classical influences, Trout Fishing in America set out to create music
both adults and children love.
Trout Fishing in America has received numerous accolades, including two Grammy nominations,
three National Indie Awards, and multiple Parents Choice Gold and American Library
Awards.
Reminiscent of the works of poet Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss, Trout Fishing in
America treats kids as smart, cynical and obstinate, with humorous lyrics and soulful
harmonies.
Folk artists Barton and Sweeny Trio will open the night with a performance.
Tickets for Trout Fishing in America are $20 for adults, $18 for NSU alumni, $16 for
NSU employees, $14 for senior citizens, $10 for students and children, and $5 for
