NSU awards tuition waivers from campaign

Published: 2010-08-24

Two Northeastern State University students were announced as winners of tuition waivers from a NSU Branding Campaign promotion.

Recipients were incoming freshman Sara Mitchell and returning student Stephanie Nutt. Both received $2,500 to help cover their tuition costs.

Nutt, a 2007 graduate of Oktaha High School, takes most of her courses on NSU's Broken Arrow campus and online.

I'm very honored to get this waiver, said Nutt. It will assist financially and help me reach my goal of getting my degree.

Nutt carries a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average in criminal justice-legal studies.

I heard about the waiver and applied for it and wanted to be positive about my chances of winning it, she said. I want to thank Bill Nowlin, the dean of enrollment, and I am very thankful to be part of the NSU family.

Mitchell arrives at NSU from Locust Grove. She said she was "happy and excited" about winning the Branding Campaign waiver.

This will go a long way toward my college expenses, said Mitchell. It has made a big impact for me, because now I really don't have to worry about how I'm going to pay for college this year.

Though she is just starting college, Mitchell already has her eye on a course of study.

One of the majors that I have decided to go into is criminal justice mostly the forensics part of it," she said. "My second major I haven't really decided on it yet.

Mitchell said she was also honored to win the waiver and that "my whole family is so excited for me."

The Branding Campaign tuition waivers were established to provide an incentive for new and continuing students to visit the university website, www.nsuok.edu or www.go2nsu.com, and see the institution's new brand, with an additional goal of increasing applications and enrollment.

Anyone enrolled at NSU could apply, with one award going to an incoming freshman and the second to a continuing student.
