NSU wins big at OCPRA

TAHLEQUAH -- The Office of Communications and Marketing at Northeastern State University brought home nine awards from the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association annual competition held July 12 at Post Oak Lodge west of Tulsa.
Public and private universities and colleges throughout Oklahoma competed for top prizes in 31 categories that encompass visual, written, oral and web development projects.
NSU gathered first place awards in the following categories: radio advertisements for Gather Here. Go Far, produced by Aaron Anderson, video projects coordinator, along with Elisha Harbin and Corbin Brown, student assistants; video features, also produced by Anderson with assistance from Harbin and Brown, for NSU Redmen Heritage Wall; special publications, created by Ross Maute, graphic designer, for 2008 Foundation Annual Report; newsletters, designed by Ross Maute with production assistance from Jennifer Zehnder, interim director of communications and marketing, Peter Henshaw, university photographer and Sean Kennedy, staff writer, for Reflections: The Official Monthly Newsletter of NSU.
NSU won second place in the video features category for Heritage, produced by Anderson and Harbin, and in the smaller brochure category for Mautes 24th Annual Galaxy of Stars Series. Third place awards were garnered by Ryan Jensen, graphic designer, in the smaller brochure category for Bagley Hall Dedication and also by Jensen in the bright idea category for the NSU Mission/Values Pocket Card.
Contest entries were produced during the past year and submitted to OCPRA judging coordinators last May. Nancy Garber, who retired as NSU Communications and Marketing director in June, completed a term as president at the conference. Also attending were Maute, Jensen, and Kennedy, along with Melissa Cloud, web team coordinator, and Casey Woodard, department secretary, who was awarded a newcomer scholarship by OCPRA to attend the conference and enhance her career in public relations.
OCPRA was founded in the late 1960s to promote higher education for the purpose of enhancing Oklahomas economy and quality of life for citizens. NSU has been an active participant for more than 30 years.
