Valdez to deliver Dr. Isabel Baker Memorial Lecture

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Dr. Cammi Valdez will deliver the 2024 Dr. Isabel Baker Memorial Lecture in Women’s Studies this week at NSU. 

Valdez currently serves as assistant dean of the Gregg Wadley College of Science & Health Professions and is an assistant professor of chemistry at NSU. Her research in vascular biology has been published in numerous journals including The American Journal of Pathology as well as the Current Diabetes Report. Beginning in 2015, she has served as a member of the Harvard Graduate School Alumni Association Council and in 2020 she became a trustee for the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation.

Valdez will present “Hiding in Plain Sight: The Tale of a Sugar’s Role in Diabetic Vision Loss,” on Thursday, April 18 at 2 p.m. in Wilson Hall room 407. The presentation is free and open to the public. 

About the lectureship

The Dr. Isabel Baker Memorial Lectureship in Women’s Studies was established in May 2021. The objective of the lecture is to highlight NSU faculty doing research on women, and to honor Dr. Isabel Baker and her legacy as an educator and champion of women.
