Wilson named to NSU Alumni Association board

Published: 2011-01-14

Lewis Wilson of Tulsa and 1972 graduate of Northeastern State University has been named to the board of directors for NSU's Alumni Association.

Explaining his decision to accept the invitation to join the board, Wilson said he wanted to represent the concerns of the African-American Student Association.

"The AASA and its individual members would like to be a part of the Alumni Association and would like to be involved in its decisions," he said. "We would like to have an effect in acquiring African-American faculty and administrators for NSU."

While at Northeastern, Wilson served on the Inter-fraternal Council, was charter president of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, president of the African-American Student Union and a member of the College Union Activity Board.

Wilson volunteers as chair of the Sick and Shut-In Committee of the Booker T. Washington Class of 1967 and co-chairs NSU-AASA.

He wants to use his demonstrated leadership to enhance the relationship between NSU and its African-American alumni.

"I would like to see increased African-American membership in the Alumni Association," he said. "I'd also like to see increased involvement by the Alumni Association in the AASA and acknowledgment of the contributions and achievements of African-American students with NSU."

He has assumed his place on the board and will attend his first meeting during the Spring 2011 term.

Wilson lives in Tulsa with his wife Rossalyn. He has two sons from a previous marriage, Tristan Wilson of Tulsa and Travis Wilson of Oklahoma City, step-son Phillip Potts of Del City and a daughter, LaShon Anderson of Tulsa.
