Anderson selected as new Northeastern State University Graduate College Dean

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University has selected Dr. Iain Anderson as the Dean of the Graduate College. Anderson officially took over his new post July 1.

Anderson previously served as the Interim Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs, where he supervised International Programs, Advising, the Center for Tribal Studies and many faculty support units. Prior to this role, Anderson served as the History Department Chair and Professor of History at NSU from 2016-2023. In addition, he directed the master’s program in American Studies.

“Together with the Graduate College team and Graduate Council, I aim to support quality programs aligned to Oklahoma’s critical occupations and workforce needs,” Anderson said.

He said he looks forward to collaborating with academic colleges, program directors and graduate faculty to develop and grow quality graduate programs and support graduate students, as well as identifying the needs of programs and students in order to maximize enrollment opportunities and retention.

“I have always enjoyed working with graduate students and faculty. I hope to continue providing the support that my students and I enjoyed when I served as a graduate program director,” Anderson said.

Anderson earned a Ph.D. in History from Indiana University. Prior to coming to NSU, he held both faculty and leadership positions at Nebraska Wesleyan University and Dana College.

“Dr. Anderson’s leadership and vision will be instrumental in advancing our graduate programs and supporting our students on their educational and professional endeavors,” NSU President Rodney Hanley said. “We look forward to the continued growth and development of our Graduate College under his guidance.”
