Keep Oklahoma Beautiful grant to expand vegetable garden at NSU-Broken Arrow
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Northeastern State University’s Broken Arrow campus has been awarded a $3,000 grant from Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, facilitated through Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful.
The grant, secured by Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful, aligns with Keep Oklahoma Beautiful's mission to promote environmental beautification. Julia Rogers, NSU Assistant Director of Facilities for NSUBA and board member of Keep Broken Arrow Beautiful, worked closely with A New Leaf, a campus partner of NSU-BA, to develop plans for expanding the vegetable garden at NSU's Broken Arrow campus.
This initiative aims to enhance access to fresh produce for NSU staff, faculty, students and visitors at the Administrative Services Building. It also serves as an educational resource for various campus classes, the daycare, and campus employees, showcasing sustainable agriculture practices in a small-scale setting.
"The expanded vegetable garden not only supports campus sustainability efforts but also offers valuable hands-on learning opportunities," Rogers explained. "Students, particularly those studying agricultural and environmental sciences, will benefit from the practical experience gained through growing and managing produce."
Located near the campus gazebo on the northwest side, the garden spans approximately 20 feet by 20 feet. This project exemplifies collaboration between NSU and A New Leaf, an organization dedicated to empowering Oklahomans with intellectual and developmental disabilities through agricultural and environmental projects.
